She taught music to students in grades Preschool through twelve for thirty-three years before founding the Heartland Community Chorus with three other women in the community. Private teaching included piano, guitar, and voice lessons. She has done musical direction for over eighty shows, ranging from first grade plays to high school productions to community theater. She and husband Richard own Murphy Music Service; they tune and repair pipe organs in Southern Illinois and the St. Louis area. There are three married children and three grandsons, in Brooklyn, NY, Columbus, OH, and Eugene, OR that they see as often as possible. Her favorite night of the week is Monday, because that is the rehearsal night for the Heartland Community Chorus, when she gets to make music with her friends.
